Looking for Clues
Although you are looking for hazards that are moving, there are lots of clues that another road user may be nearby that will become a hazard. You should aim to notice these clues!
Look out for:
- Road Signs
- Road Markings
- Shape of the Road
How to Spot the Hazards in good time:
- Look well ahead – as far as you can in the road
- Scan back towards your car
- Look to the sides of the road
- Check mirrors regularly
- Look at road signs and markings
- Notice what other road users are doing e.g braking, slowing down, changing position in the road, signalling
As a driver, if you see anything that might cause you to STOP, SLOW or CHANGE POSITION in the road, you must:
- Check your mirrors
- Ease off the gas
This will help you to know how to react safely and give you time to react safely.
