Question 19
When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d operate the horn?
Answer 19
- Think about what the examiner has asked you
- Remind yourself what you need to do
- Make sure there are no road users that you will startle, and you don’t have a bend close ahead. You don’t know what’s around the bend.
- Press your horn briefly
Extra 19
The horn in a car should only be used when you are moving and to warn other road users of your presence. For example, if another car is about to hit you.
You should not use your horn in a built-up area late at night or early in the morning. So not after 11.30 pm or before 7.00 am.
The horn should never be used to say hello to friends, to show you’re annoyed, or for fun. This is misleading and confusing for others and could cause an accident.
