Question 3

Question 3
Tell me how you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash.

Answer 3
The head restraint should be adjusted so the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears, and as close to the back of the head as is comfortable.

Extra 3
Your head restraint is there to protect your head and neck in case of a crash.

If you crash your car will stop suddenly, and head will be thrown forward and then backwards quite violently. This can cause serious injury.

Your head restraint will help to protect from serious injury in this situation.

But you need to make sure that it is adjusted correctly. The thick part needs to be in line with your eyes or the tops of your ears.

You also need to adjust the back rest of your seat to make sure that your head restraint is as close to the back of your head as comfortable. In a crash you don’t want your head to fly back too far before it has the protection of the head restraint.

Note that some head restraints are not adjustable.
