Lesson 10, Topic 1
In Progress

Foot Controls – Clutch

The Clutch:

Use the clutch with your left foot. Press the clutch pedal to the floor when changing gear and just before stopping. When you press the clutch pedal it separates the two clutch plates uncoupling the engine from the wheels thus cutting the power to the wheels and allowing you to change gear.

You can control the vehicle at low speed when manoeuvring by bringing the clutch pedal up only as far as the biting point (clutch plates just touching) and carefully moving the pedal up and down with very small movements to control the speed. When bringing the clutch pedal up it should be done smoothly and progressively.

• Do not ride the clutch (resting your foot on the clutch pedal when not in use).
• Do not coast on the clutch (staying on the clutch pedal after changing gear)
