Lesson 10, Topic 1

Hand Controls – Steering Wheel

The Steering Wheel:

Use the steering wheel with both hands and a gentle grip unless giving a signal or using other controls. Turn the wheel in the direction you want to go using the ‘Pull – Push Method’, keeping both hands on their own side of the wheel at all times. Note: The ‘Pull – Push Method’ of steering is not considered vital although your steering technique must give you full control of the vehicle at all times, the ‘Pull – Push Method’ of steering will go a long way to giving you that control.

Look where you want to go and not at what you’re trying to avoid as your hands follow your eyes.

Be careful not to dry steer (steering when the vehicle is stationary).

Do not allow the wheel to slip through your hands when straightening up after turning.
