How to Approach and Cross a Level Crossing

Approaching level crossings:

Plan well ahead to read any signs and road markings that will give you instructions on
how to deal with the crossing correctly. Approach with extreme care. Never drive onto a
crossing unless your road is clear on the other side.

Never follow another car onto the crossing too closely. Ideally, they should have cleared
the crossing leaving you enough room on the other side to clear the crossing yourself.
Never stop on or just beyond the crossing. Never start to cross if lights, siren or barriers
have started working.
