Mechanical knowledge:

It is not necessary to be a mechanic or an expert on the construction of a motor vehicle, however you will need to have a basic knowledge of how the car works and the principles behind it.

You are going to have to explain to a learner driver how to operate the vehicle safely and identify any common faults when driving.

Having this knowledge will help you explain many parts of the controls lesson more easily. It will also make it easier to answer questions that may arise from your pupil.
