Safety Checks Before Starting the Vehicle and How to Start it

Safety Checks Before Starting the Car:

1. Check the handbrake is applied

2. Check the gear lever is in neutral

Starting the Vehicle:

1. Place the key in the ignition switch and turn until the starter is operated.

2. When the engine starts to run, release the key.

3. Check all but the ‘Parking Brake’ warning lights have gone out.

4. Press the accelerator slightly until running smoothly and then release.

If any of the warning lights stay on, then switch off and investigate.

In more modern vehicles there can be a keyless process for starting the vehicle which can require you to push down on the clutch and press a start button for instance. Please familiarise yourself with your vehicle starting procedure by reading the vehicle handbook.
